How Does a WHISTLE ™ device track insights about my pet's behavior such as sleeping, licking, scratching?

With a built-in accelerometer, WHISTLE devices are capable of recording your dog’s movement 50 times every second. Advanced algorithms can then identify these movements as specific behaviors, including sleeping, scratching and licking. By comparing your dog’s unique patterns with hundreds of thousands of other dogs, and tracking any changes week-over-week, your Whistle weekly wellness reports can help you spot potential health issues before they become problems.

WHISTLE sensors take 150 measurements of your dog’s motion every second. Advanced behavior detection algorithms - created by analyzing 300+ hours of user-captured video, including over 600 dogs of varied breeds and sizes caught itching on camera - help detect the unique movement signature of scratching and licking.

When your Whistle tracker is off of your dog, our algorithms intelligently “fill in the blanks” using the time of day and your dog’s unique history as a guide, enabling us to provide comparable trends week-over-week even if you missed a day or two. We require Whistle tracker data from at least 50% of your dog’s week to provide a reliable assessment, and the algorithms are only validated for dogs wearing a Whistle device on the included collar.

The detected scratching and licking is categorized into evidence-based wellness scores derived from the first-of-its-kind Pet Insight Project database.

The scores are calculated by comparing the detected behavior of 2,000+ Pet Insight dogs that were diagnosed with a dermatological issue during a visit to Banfield Pet Hospital against the detected behavior of Pet Insight dogs that were determined to have healthy skin by a veterinarian.
