Will WHISTLE ™ Work If I Am Outside Cellular Service?

The WHISTLE tracker requires AT&T 4G LTE-M cellular service to properly locate your pet and communicate with your smartphone.


The tracker does not require that your smartphone have AT&T service to function (your phone can be connected to Wi-Fi or any other network), but the tracker itself needs to secure adequate AT&T cellular service to communicate GPS updates to your phone.


Without a connection to the cellular network, you may experience either a delay in notifications that your pet has left their Safe Place, or no notification at all. When using the Find My Pet or Update Location features, you may receive a message stating, "We're having difficulty connecting to your Whistle. Please try again later." This means that the tracker is in a location that doesn't have an adequate connection to the AT&T cellular network, and therefore can't receive or respond to queries for an updated location. Continued requests to find your pet while in this state will result in battery depletion, so if you are looking for your pet, we recommend waiting several minutes before attempting to Find My Pet again (to allow time for your pet to move to an area with a better signal).
